The autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla have experienced one of the most intense border pressure episodes in recent years following the massive arrival of thousands of people from Moroccan territory. Most of the crossings took place by swimming and on foot around the El Tarajal and Benzu breakwaters, a dynamic that completely overwhelmed the reception centers and assistance infrastructure in the area.
