Samsung launches Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at Unpacked event

Samsung unveiled its eighth generation of foldable devices at the July 2026 Galaxy Unpacked event in London. The South Korean company launched three new models — Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 — alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 9 smartwatches.

The first Ultra in the foldable lineup

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the standout of the event: the first Ultra model in the history of Samsung’s foldable series. With just 4.1mm thickness when unfolded and weighing 215 grams, it features an 8-inch main display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, and a 5,000 mAh battery. Samsung highlighted its new Flex Titanium technology, designed to reduce the central crease — one of the most criticized aspects of foldables since their market debut.

A lighter Fold and a refreshed Flip

The Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a new form factor: a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch main display with a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded. At 201 grams, Samsung presents it as the lightest Fold model to date. The Galaxy Z Flip8 measures 6.1mm when unfolded and weighs 180 grams, featuring a more versatile FlexWindow cover display with functions like Now Brief to review information without opening the phone.

Integrated artificial intelligence

All three devices come with Android 17 and Galaxy AI, integrating agentive AI capabilities powered by Gemini, including intelligent multitasking, Now Nudge, and Gemini Notebook, designed to anticipate user needs and automate daily tasks.

Availability

The new foldables are available for pre-order in the United States, with deliveries expected starting August 7. With this generation, Samsung aims to consolidate its leadership in the foldable segment against growing competition from Chinese manufacturers, who have accelerated the release of their own flexible-display models in recent years.
