UEFA confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Aston Villa will contest the 2026 UEFA Super Cup, in a clash between the Champions League winner and the Europa League winner.

Salzburg to host a UEFA club final for the first time

The match will be played on Wednesday, August 12 at Stadion Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 PM Central European Time. It will be the first time that this stadium, with a capacity of 28,500 spectators, hosts a UEFA club tournament final.

PSG reached this showdown after being crowned Champions League winners in the final played in Budapest, while Aston Villa qualified after defeating Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final. For the French club, it is an opportunity to defend the title they already won in 2025, when they overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Tottenham on penalties.

A 9 million euro prize and Villa’s return to a continental final

Aston Villa, for their part, will look to repeat the feat of 1982, when they won their only UEFA Super Cup title by beating Barcelona over two legs. The August 12 match will mark the club’s return to a continental final after more than four decades.

The total prize money at stake amounts to 9 million euros, split into 5 million euros for the champion and 4 million euros for the runner-up. This match will formally open the 2026-2027 European club season, pitting the winners of the two most important continental competitions organized by UEFA against each other.
